Tim: This is a great movie, you're not gonna regret it.
Tim: You're gonna wanna skip this movie.
Tim: Have you ever wondered what movie should I see this weekend? Well, we're here to help. It's On Cinema at The Cinema.
Tim: Hi everybody, my name is Tim Heidecker and we are again back watching On Cinema at The Cinema. It's a show where we talk about movies and give you, it's a review movie show. And today's guest is Gregg Turkington.
Gregg: Hey guys, and welcome to our program.
Tim: Welcome to my program. Don't even say that. Today we're doing two movies and they're unique in that they're both sort of these popcorn movies
that you love so much and I love as well.
Gregg: Popcorn movies, yeah. These are fun movies. I think the people watching are gonna-
Tim: So, I Have a... Chill, okay. Chill.
Gregg: I'm just really excited.
Tim: I know, chill. So I thought for just a change, we would mix things up here and I actually brought in real popcorn, movie theater style popcorn.
Gregg: Oh wow, okay.
Tim: I thought we could spice things up because these movies are popcorn movies.
Gregg: And if you're at home watching On Cinema, go ahead and pop some popcorn up.
Tim: Oh.
Gregg: It's a little stale.
Tim: Today's movie is Guy Hard, Die Hard- or A Good Day to Die Hard. They keep coming up with different ways to say Die Hard. Dar- directed by John Moore and it stars Bruce Willis, Jai McCartney, Jai Courtney. And some Mary Elizabeth Winstead, two women, I guess. Never heard of any of them except for Bruce, the best.
Gregg: Well, that's the one that really counts with a Die Hard movie.
Tim: Yeah. Bruce plays John McClane, travels to Russia to help his son Jack prevent a nuclear weapons heist led by underworld forces. And Jack is the character's name, Jack Mc-- Oh, John McClane, his son's named Jack, which is another, Jack is short for John. So he could be Jack, you know.
Gregg: Like John F. Kennedy, though his nickname was Jack.
Tim: Anyhow, I've always loved the Die Hard movie series and I remember when I first saw the original one 'cause Jack, Bruce Willis, was on shows called Moonlighting. But here he is.
Gregg: And still-
Tim: And it was a big success when it came out and it continues to be--
Gregg: It's still good. You'd think, oh, Bruce Willis is getting a little old, maybe it's time to pass the torch to a new generation of Die Hard characters. But then you see this movie and you realize, nope, let's keep him in the throne, this is a good series.
Tim: And that's why I hate Bond because Bond kept changing who Bond was. And Bruce Willis has always been Die Hard and always will be. And if they try to change that, I'll drop out of the whole thing and I won't watch any more Die Hard.
Gregg: Well, I'm gonna have to disagree. With Bond, they're always improving on it. Each Bond is better than the previous Bond.
Tim: No.
Gregg: And those have been going on for 60 years. I mean, we can't have somebody who's 90 years old who's James Bond, it's just not convincing.
Tim: Well, I don't buy it. It doesn't make sense to me how you could have like the same character with different looks with the same name. This is why I love Die Hard because I don't give up on- *spits out popcorn* I'm trying to eat this shit. *spitting and coughing* I got a kernel... *coughs* right, right in the back of the throat... *coughing* Okay. *clearing throat*
Tim: Good, yeah, so Die Hard does it right every time Bruce Willis in the lead. And I give it five bags of popcorn and my own private collection of popcorn as well. Five bags of my own private collection of my own popcorn.
Gregg: I give it five bags of popcorn. How can you not give a Die Hard movie five bags of popcorn? They're all kind of five baggers. I would also throw in a goblet of the finest champagne and toast Bruce Willis and the whole Die Hard gang for bringing us yet another successful hit.
Tim: All right, our second film is Escape From Planet Earth. Not to be mistaken from under- from Escape From Planet- or from Planet or-- Escape from New York-
Gregg: Escape from the Planet of the Apes.
Tim: No, Escape From New York.
Gregg: Okay.
Tim: With John Cleese, or no- John Singleton or John--
Gregg: Kurt Russell.
Tim: Right, I'm sorry, Kurt Russell. This stars Brendan Fraser, it's an animated film. Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, and James... James- James Gafini... Gandalf.
Gregg: From The Hobbit.
Tim: James Gandalf--James Gandalofini. Gandalfini. I don't know how to pronounce the name. Gandalfini. James Gandalfini.
Gregg: Gandalfini.
Tim: So this is an astronaut named Scorch Supernova, love that name, finds himself in a trap where he best busy up to escape from planet Earth. This movie thrilled and chilled me, and I love this movie. It was fun, sci-fi is my favorite kind of movie, but it also comedy and anime. Films are my favorite kind of movies. So this has all three wonderful combinations to make one of my films of the years, Escape From Planet Earth.
Gregg: It's a great movie. I don't think you're gonna find anyone that would disagree. I would say it could have been made just a little bit better if you've got somebody like Brendan Fraser, who's a great resource. If you'd actually filmed him rather than animate him, I think it would have been more enjoyable. People like Brendan Fraser, and it's kind of weird to look at a cartoon when you could be looking at the real thing. So that's a mistake I think they made.
Tim: No, there's no mistake. Not a mistake. That's a choice.
Gregg: But I think it was the wrong choice because Brendan Fraser, he's not Mel Blanc, he's not some fatso that you don't want to look at. This is a guy who's had a great career, he's very photogenic, very handsome.
Tim: No, you know what? *smacks popcorn* I'm not letting you say that kind of crap on my show, okay? This was the way they made the movie. They animated, it wouldn't work as a, as a, it wouldn't work as that either, all right? Now don't-
